SCU (Standard Capacity Units)

The factory capacity required to produce the target volumes of products can be determined using standard capacity units (SCU). This is a standard production term used to represent a unit of work on a product.  You can use this to work out how much Factory Capacity you need in MikesBikes.

MikesBikes Intro

  • Mountain Bike requires 0.5 SCU per bike
  • Kids Bike requires 0.25 SCU
  • Road Bike requires 1.0 SCU

In MikesBikes Intro, you start with 20,000 SCU of factory capacity and 75% efficiency.  So the maximum number of Mountain Bikes you can produce in year one is 30,000 units because 25% of your production capacity is lost to various forms of wastage.

Note – the SCU required per bike does not change in MikesBikes Intro as you perform product development.

MikesBikes Advanced

When you first launch a product, each bike initially requires:

  • Mountain Bike 1.0 SCU per bike
  • Kids Bike 0.25 SCU per bike
  • Road Bike 1.4 SCU per bike
  • Electric Bike 0.6 SCU per bike
  • Cruiser Bike 0.35 SCU per bike

When you perform product development in MikesBikes, the SCU required per bike will increase as you upgrade the bike and decrease as you perform cost reduction on your bike.  This will affect the amount of Factory Capacity you need in MikesBikes Advanced.
